Someone once said, "The best things in life are free". After some research, I found that some British person first said this, but they declined to comment. At any rate, whoever said it was pretty wise.
We live in a culture and city that is driven by going, doing, and spending. Our city is a place where dreams can come true, for the right price. We can be a trapeze artist, a mountain climber, a surfer, or even a scuba diver as long as we have the right amount of cash in our pocket. However, the question remains... Does "fulfilling" our dreams by buying a 6 week crash course really make us feel fulfilled and happy?
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of being able to go out and learn something new, that's not my point. My point is, your children need you so much more than they need to learn to surf, play sports, or learn an instrument. There is a time and a place for taking part in these things, but just as a word to the wise, don't allow your child's schedule to be overrun with such activities. Plan some fun activities that are tied directly to spending time together. Plan an outing to the beach, or the park. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day just being together. Grab a seat on the couch and watch a classic Disney flick. Your presence with your child must be the most important activity because your presence can never be replaced.
