Spiritual Osmosis

There are quite a few assumptions made in our culture. We assume that the guy at Best Buy will be able to easily answer all of our ambiguous questions about obscure technology, or that we have the right of way whenever we are behind the wheel, and often we assume that our children will know who Jesus is by some magical spiritual osmosis. The issue with all of this is... our assumptions are rarely, if ever, correct.

Jesus paints a very clear picture in scripture that we are to sow the seeds of the gospel with all people that we come in contact with. Often, we think this applies to people we work with or are friends with outside of church, but rarely do we think of children. Children are in just as big of need to hear the truth about humanity and sin as well as the truth about salvation through Jesus.

As a teacher by profession, I am aware of the fact that in order to ingrain a skill set in a child, there must be constant and consistent teaching of that skill. Teaching kids about Jesus is no different. Unless there is a constant sowing of seeds about Jesus and our need for Him, there can be no expectation that the child will ever grasp or understand the importance of Jesus.

Start them young and speak the name of Jesus often. The more you talk about Jesus, the more your kids will talk about Jesus. The more your kids talk about Jesus, the more likely they are to carry Jesus with them throughout their life.
